FLOW / STRÖMNINGAR The exhibition FLOW is about flowing in several ways. The four artists will present their own works; installations, paintings and glass engravings. One part of the exhibition is produced on site in Eskilstuna, using local inhabitants - especially those of Finnish descent, who came to town with migratory movements over the years. The site-specific installation consists of photographs of these people's hands, to be assembled to form one large map. In the map it is formed a long river-like image from the lines of the hands. These river-lines give the installation a flow which may open new river-grooves whose direction or content we do not know in advance. The artists' own works deals with flows of time and mind. Markku Haanpääs installation consists of a village, a group of small houses, detached from its origin, but with solid roots still in the houses. Riitta Liedes installation consists of a group of mongoose-like animals who have decided to move to other provinces, and therefore bring tools and implements. Milla Hannulas abstract paintings create sensory images of landscapes, where the image of memory will change over time. The transparent glass engravings by Tonja Goldblatt seems to ask questions if these images ever existed in reality. Turku Artists' Association was founded in 1924, and has since worked as an organization of professional artists. The association gathers around 170 members and runs Galleria Å in central Turku. |
